Health Data Research UK is the national institute for data science in healthcare. Our mission is to unite the UK’s health data to make discoveries that improve people’s lives.

HDR UK is a recipient of research funding and disseminator of research funding. As a data institute we do not directly fund research using animals.

We receive funding from a range of organisations who may also fund research using animal models, such as the Medical Research Council. As a disseminator of funding we may fund research organisations who also undertake animal research, though we do not directly fund animal research. Our researchers may work on data that has been generated through research that has been conducted using animals, such as preliminary drug efficacy studies.

We fully support the principles of the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction and Refinement). The outcomes of our research which includes tools and techniques for conducting healthcare research, have the potential to replace and / or reduce the use of animals in research. We will share our successes in achieving this through our annual review.
