The annual review is available online and its interactive format provides a summary of progress in the areas of science, infrastructure and people.  This work is underpinned by Health Data Research UK’s commitment to earning public trust through engagement and involvement in the use of health data for research.  The review showcases examples of the outstanding research already taking place across the 22 universities and partner institutions.

HDR UK Digital Annual Review 2018 19

Key highlights from 2018/19 include:

  • Establishing six research sites, comprising 22 universities and institutes
  • Published 30 open access research publications
  • Agreed six science UK-wide health data science research priorities
  • Developed three £1M national research projects to create tools and technologies for health data science
  • Led a fellowship programme with 46 HDR UK UKRI/Rutherford Fellows in health data science
  • Awarded a £10M grant from the British Heart Foundation to create the UK Cardiovascular Data Science Centre
  • Established the UK Health Data Research Alliance with nine data custodians joining as founding members
  • Engaged almost 3,000 people across academia, the NHS, industry, charities and patients in the £37.5M Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund Digital Innovation Hub Programme that HDR UK has been asked by the UK Government to lead.
