Health Data Research UK welcomes new Scottish Alliance members

Ahead of its showpiece Alliance Symposium event on 1^st December, HDR UK today welcomes Public Health Scotland and the UK Brain Bank Network,  currently hosted by the Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences at Edinburgh University, to the UK Health Data Research Alliance.

Both based in Scotland, the inclusion of these organisations demonstrates HDR UK’s unique four-nation approach to convening the sector. They will be joining the 40 Alliance members collaborating to in our shared mission to unite datasets across the UK, and promote the responsible use of health data for research and innovation.

Both of the new members bring a wealth of knowledge and new datasets to the Alliance, that will result in better research and improved outcomes for patients as a result.

Public Health Scotland is the national agency for improving and protecting the health and wellbeing of the people of Scotland; custodians of a wide range of Scottish health and social care datasets.  The UK Brain Bank Network was set up by the Medical Research Council in order to provide a coordinated network of UK brain tissue resources for research. The UK Brain Bank Network unites brain biobank resources across Scotland and England, and has developed standardised approaches to brain banking.

As Alliance members, the rich datasets from both organisations will be available to users of the Health Data Research Innovation Gateway.
