The NIHR BioResource is a recallable resource for researchers to support experimental medicine studies and early phase clinical trials. The BioResource comprises a panel of over 200,000 volunteers, with and without health conditions, who have agreed to take part in health research and donated a biological sample for analysis. Combined with health, lifestyle and medical information, researchers can apply to access the detailed genetic and clinical data we hold on prospective participants, who can be selected by genotype and/or phenotype to take part.

We are delighted to participate in the Black Internship Programme for a 3rd year. As we strive to build on our efforts to diversify our own volunteer panel and improve representation in research from marginalised communities, it is imperative that we simultaneously do everything we can to support early career research and data science professionals from ethnically diverse backgrounds.

NIHR BioResource Director, Dr. Nathalie Kingston, said:

“Our previous intakes of Interns have made valuable contributions to exciting data projects including our BioResource Portal and developing new data visualisation tools. We look forward to onboarding two new colleagues this summer.”
