Paola joined HDR UK in February 2020 and is currently Head of Alliance Strategy and Engagement. Paola is responsible for strategic and operational management of the Health Data Research Alliance programme and leads on data standards and infrastructure projects. Her role is integral to manage and deliver the Alliance programme and support its growth and development, working with collaborators from the user community as well as regulators and funders. Paola also leads on international partnerships, with particular focus on European initiatives.
Prior to joining HDR UK Paola worked at Cancer Research UK, where she oversaw the development of data sharing and open science policies for researchers. She was responsible for ensuring that research data are managed appropriately and are shared to maximise reuse. Paola holds a PhD in microbiology from Imperial College, with a background in pharmaceutical chemistry, and before moving to the charity and public sector she worked in open science publishing.
