Gordon Smith is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Cambridge, UK. He graduated in Medicine from Glasgow University in 1990 and has four other degrees from Glasgow (BSc, MD, PhD and DSc). He trained as an Obstetrician-Gynaecologist in Glasgow 1991-2001, but with time out for research posts funded by the Wellcome Trust in Glasgow University (1992-1993) and Cornell University, USA (1996-1999). He was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Science in 2010. His research focuses on using diverse methods to study pregnancy complications caused by placental dysfunction, principally fetal growth restriction and preeclampsia.
