Dr Mills is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, a British Heart Foundation Senior Clinical Research Fellow, and is Professor of Cardiology at the University of Edinburgh. His research aims to understand the mechanisms of myocardial injury in patients with coronary heart disease, and to identify novel approaches to improve risk stratification and clinical outcomes in these patients. He is the principal investigator of a multi-centred cluster randomised trial evaluating the impact of a high sensitive troponin I assay on patients with suspected acute coronary syndrome (High-STEACS). Professor Mills is a specialist member of the Diagnostics Advisory Committee for the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) consultation on high-sensitivity cardiac troponin.
