Dr Sam Cox is a Senior Research Software Engineer (RSE) within the Digital Research Service at the University of Nottingham. Sam has responsibilities for Health and High Performance Computing (HPC), and promoting the interactions between the core RSE team in the Service and a research centre of excellence in the Precision Imaging Beacon and Health Data Research UK.

Sam has a background in HPC and mathematics, having worked on regional supercomputers for projects in a wide range of fields. His focus is on providing tools and expertise for researchers to make the best use of HPC resources for preclinical MRI analysis with applications in mental health.

Sam studied his PhD at University of Leicester, investigating the modelling of the Earth’s mantle with advanced mathematical techniques on HPC machines. He then took up a position as an RSE in Leicester, before moving to Nottingham in 2019.
