Trudie Lang, Global Research Director of HDR UK, will be leading the event’s first keynote address, joined by Mauricio Barreto, Emeritus Professor and Founder and Director of Fiocruz. Mauricio is the leader of the major 100 million Brazilian Cohort, investigating social determinants of health and the impact of poverty reduction policies on health.

Trudie said: “Health data has enormous potential to advance medical knowledge and deliver radical improvements to people’s lives, but we must ensure these benefits are inclusive of and accessible to the entire global population.

“I’m excited to be speaking at HDR UK’s Scientific Conference as the director of the newly established HDR Global programme to connect with the international health data research community and have the discussions needed to drive data-driven progress in global health and society.”

Other headline speakers include Tim Ferris, National Director of Transformation for NHS England and NHS Improvement; Kenneth Cukier, deputy executive editor at The Economist and co-author of “Big Data,” a NYT bestseller translated in over 20 languages; and Jenny Harries, Chief Executive of the UK Health Security Agency who has played central roles in the UK’s response to a number of significant public health incidents.

The conference will also be an important opportunity to build relationships with key players from industry, including Susan Thomas, Clinical Director for Google Health UK and John Halamka, President of the Mayo Clinic Platform.

Members of the public and patient representatives will play a vital role in the event’s panel discussions, providing their unique and important perspective on topics including ‘Who is being left behind in the health data research revolution?’, to ‘Future priorities: Shaping the post-COVID-19 health data research landscape’.

Lynn Laidlaw, a public and patient representative speaking at one of the event’s panel sessions, said: “Having been involved as a public contributor in several projects with HDR UK, I know there is a willingness to have conversations about how we can make health data research more inclusive and beneficial to patients.

“I would encourage anyone with an interest in health data or improving patient care to come along and give your point of view and help shape the future of health data research.”
