Professor Mark Arends trained in Medicine and Pathology at The University of Edinburgh and became Senior Lecturer there in 1995. He moved to the University of Cambridge in 1999, becoming Reader in Histopathology. Mark specialised in, and was the lead, for gastrointestinal pathology (including lead pathologist for the bowel cancer screening programme for the East of England) and gynaecological pathology. He developed specialist expertise in the pathology of cancer syndromes, gastrointestinal and inflammatory bowel disease pathology. In 2013, Mark moved to The University of Edinburgh as Professor of Pathology, Head of the Division of Pathology and Director of Centre for Comparative Pathology.
