Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) is delighted to welcome Professor Junaid Bajwa to the Non-Executive Board of Trustees. Together with our current board members, Junaid will help ensure the effective governance and development of HDR UK and provide oversight on the delivery of the Institute’s strategy.

On his appointment, Junaid said:

“I am thrilled to be joining HDR UK’s Board and look forward to working with colleagues and our wider community to enable secure, impactful health data research at scale.”

Junaid is the Chief Medical Scientist at Microsoft Research and a practising physician in the UK’s National Health Service. He has consulted for health care systems across the world and worked across primary care, secondary care, and public health settings, in addition to acting as a payer and policymaker within the UK where he specialized in informatics, digital transformation, and leadership.

Additional Board updates

HDR UK is thrilled to announce the reappointment of Professor Dame Janet Thornton, who will be completing her third term on the Board. Janet is our longest-serving member of the Board, providing invaluable input into deciding and driving HDR UK’s strategic direction since the Board was first established in 2017.

The Board, Senior Leadership Team and the rest of the HDR UK community also wish Professor Sarah Harper all the best for the future as she steps down from her role as a trustee at the end of her term. We would like to thank Sarah for playing an integral role in the growth and development of HDR UK, since joining the Board in 2019.

Professor Ara Darzi has also stepped down from the Board and will continue to support HDR UK in his new role, as Special Advisor.
